Federal law 18 USC 922(b)(1) and 27 CFR 478. 99(b) requires that you must be 21 years or older to purchase handgun ammunition and 18 years or older to purchase rifle ammunition.

State Restrictions specific to HOP Munitions

We DO NOT ship to New York, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington DC, or the City of Chicago. We require the FOID identification to ship to Illinois and New Jersey.

  • Connecticut: State-issued ID and Certificate/Permit is required
  • Illinois: FOID card and State issued ID is required
  • Massachusetts: Firearms ID is required
  • New Jersey: Firearms ID is required

Additionally, we now ship to California. The laws for buying ammo online in California are now surprisingly simple as of January 31, 2024. Just meet the following three guidelines to legally buy ammunition and have it shipped directly to you without a background check.

  1. Be a California resident
  2. Be 21 years of age or older to buy handgun ammunition
  3. Be 18 years of age or older to buy rifle or shotgun ammunition

In some states, to legally possess firearms or ammunition, you must obtain a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card. The State Police issue this card to any qualified applicant.
